Design & Liquidity

The obverse of this 10 oz SilverTowne bar features an oval-shaped design showcasing a prospector with a pickaxe slung over his shoulder, leading a trusty donkey laden with bags, both moving towards the right. Below this central image, the bar is clearly inscribed with ".999 FINE SILVER TEN TROY OUNCES" and the distinct "SilverTowne L.P." signature logo, which cleverly integrates a pickaxe into the 'T'. The reverse of the bar is adorned with a repeating crisscross waffle pattern, centered by a smaller vertical rendition of the "SilverTowne L.P." logo and the prospector and donkey motif. This iconic design is widely known as the "Prospector" series, sometimes informally referred to as the "donkey bar". Produced by the SilverTowne Mint, the Prospector bar was among the first designs ever minted by the company, originating in the early 1970s when SilverTowne began manufacturing silver bullion. In terms of secondary market liquidity, SilverTowne Prospector bars are highly recognized and popular within the U.S. market, offering strong liquidity. They are considered a practical and cost-efficient investment due to their direct exposure to silver spot prices and typically lower premiums compared to other premium-branded bars, making them a favored choice for both stackers and collectors, and generally easy to sell.

About the Mint

Established in 1949 by Leon Hendrickson and his wife Ruhama, SilverTowne began as a modest coin shop, evolving into one of the country's most respected dealers of rare coins, modern coins, and precious metals. The mint operations for silver bullion commenced in 1973. Headquartered in Winchester, Indiana, SilverTowne has expanded significantly from its humble beginnings, which famously started with inventory kept in a cigar box under a lunch counter, to encompass multiple buildings, showrooms, and even a multi-million dollar TV studio and production facility for "The Coin Vault." The SilverTowne Prospector silver rounds and bars, featuring the iconic prospector and donkey, are among their most recognized and flagship minted products. A unique aspect of SilverTowne is its multifaceted nature; it's rare in the industry for a company to handle the entire process from producing coins and bullion to providing a sales outlet through its own television show. Furthermore, SilverTowne specializes in custom minting services, crafting unique coins and bullion for a diverse range of organizations, including schools and even the U.S. Military, and provides in-house assay services to its clients.
