Design & Liquidity

The reverse of the 2014 Canadian Silver Maple Leaf coin features a large, intricately detailed single maple leaf. Inscriptions encircling the leaf include "CANADA" at the top, the exceptional purity of "9999" on either side, and "FINE SILVER 1 OZ ARGENT PUR" at the bottom. A notable security feature, a micro-engraved maple leaf privy mark with the digit "14" inside, is visible near the stem of the main maple leaf. This iconic Maple Leaf design, a national symbol of Canada, was first introduced for silver bullion coins in 1988. The obverse displays the elegant effigy of Queen Elizabeth II in right-facing profile, designed by Susanna Blunt, which was introduced to Canadian coinage in 2003 and used until 2023. Surrounding the Queen's portrait are the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II" at the top, the coin's face value "5 DOLLARS" at the bottom, and the year of mintage "2014" to the right. Both sides of the coin feature precisely machined radial lines, a security enhancement introduced by the Royal Canadian Mint in 2014 to deter counterfeiting and enhance visual appeal. The Canadian Silver Maple Leaf is globally recognized and highly liquid in the secondary market, standing as the world's second most popular silver bullion coin by mintage. Its consistent .9999 fine silver purity and the Royal Canadian Mint's reputation for quality further solidify its appeal to investors and collectors worldwide.

About the Mint

The Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) boasts a rich history spanning over a century, having been initially established on January 2, 1908, as a branch of Britain's Royal Mint in Ottawa. It transitioned into a wholly Canadian institution in December 1931 and became a Crown corporation in 1969, reflecting Canada's growing independence. The Mint is world-renowned for its flagship bullion products, the Gold Maple Leaf, first launched in 1979, and the Silver Maple Leaf, introduced in 1988, both celebrated for their iconic design and exceptional purity. The Royal Canadian Mint is a pioneer in the precious metals industry, notably being the first major sovereign mint to issue .9999 fine gold bullion coins and later producing the world's first .99999 pure gold bullion coins. Another interesting historical fact is its introduction of advanced security features, such as radial lines and Bullion DNA™ anti-counterfeiting technology, on its bullion coins beginning in 2014, making them among the most secure in the market. The RCM also pioneered the world's first colored circulation coin, the 25-Cent Remembrance Poppy coin, released in 2004.
